#HoyaSaxa! Now what…?
I have a nasty habit of expecting more out of unknown situations than is actually possible. In an effort to temper that habit, I’m going to list some of the things I expect to get out of this program at Georgetown University. I’ll blog so much about it so I’m sure we can see if my expectations were on or off point.

You, Me, & COVID-19
It has been more than a month since I’ve started my freelance writing–more like marketing but we will get to that later–career and holy shit has this been a ride. My expectations, and wallet, were prepared for the 2-3 months of uncertainty that are commonplace when you are just starting out. Then the COVID-19 pandemic became more of a daily reality than anyone expected.

Marketing Mistakes
Today’s B2B industry practices are increasingly focused on the online experience potential clients may have when interacting with a company’s website or marketing materials. Twenty years ago, only the largest businesses had a website and a robust online marketing strategy. So, You’ve Decided to Become a Freelancer
Making the shift from the 9-5 rat race to the unpredictable world of freelancing is daunting even for the most prepared and organized person. “Just Black”
Born with a round nose, kinky hair and medium to light skin, I, as well as most of my family members, am the epitome of what a stereotypical black girl looks like. There’s nothing exotic about me and in a world where black beauty is still praised in the context of Halle Berrys, Alicia Keyses and Lupita Nyongos, it still is taking me some time to understand where I fit in this spectrum.

Livin’ Just Enough For the City
The landscapes of certain neighborhoods in the US are constantly changing as developers invest in an impoverished area, allowing those with cash-to-spare to move in, while those scratching for pennies are forced out. I, however, do not have a solid stance on whether gentrification is more beneficial or harmful to communities. And here is my personal story that details the source of my conflict.

In Defense of Blackish
Discussing race and culture comically is not a bad thing. In fact, it could be argued that shows like “A Different World” and “The Cosby Show” failed to show the humanity of its characters within their racial identifiers, lacking proof that black culture has influenced their behavior and their successes at all.
